Hard to believe I have tried many ways of fixing baked potatoes to find the foolproof technique for a crispy skin, a soft flaky texture, and the least amount of preparation.  Something as basic as a baked potato should not warrant this much effort, and yet, the perfect baked potato is worth all that and more.  Here is the simple secret.

While in college, I spent a summer week sailing in the British Virgin Islands.  I learned many refreshing (and strong!) mixed drinks from the islands.  My favorite was the Planter's Punch, made with three rums, sweet orange and pineapple juice, refreshingly tart lime juice, and a dash of grenadine.  This is a fantastic summer drink that is not too sweet for a fruit punch, and as strong as you want it.

4th Annual DFW Romanian Food Festival on November 6-8, 2009

This coming weekend will run the fourth annual DFW Romanian Food Festival in Colleyville, Texas.  This outdoor festival boasts great ethnic food, dancing, and other activities, hosted by the Saint Mary's Romanian Orthodox Church.  The weather forecast looks terrific, although the festival is always prepared with its huge tents.

A top notch fine wine and exquisite food pairing was presented by E. & J. Gallo Winery and InformationWeek on September 13, 2009.  The Master of Ceremonies was the charismatic Kent Kushar, E. & J. Gallo Winery VP and CIO, who knows his fine wines and knows how to please a crowd.  This was amongst the most enjoyable pairing menus I've ever attended.  The following is the fantastic wine and food menu presented on that fine evening:
